Eventually, superbikes were given their own world championship within the FIM. In addition, almost every country has a national championship for surperbikes.

For classic racers, superbikes offer an affordable way of racing fast machines. There are classic championships in many countries, and in Europe a new (for 2013) series for endurance bikes has been very popular (the bikes are, after all, very similar to superbikes).

So for those of you thinking about doing some vintage or classic racing, perhaps superbikes are the way to go.
